SAMULI HALLA
INSTALLATION n. 8 “Nordic butterflies”
This is cooperation project with 3 Finnish artist SAMULI HALLA (b. 1969) Art Director, Stage Designer, Costume Designer, Spatial Artist.
Halla has done for 20 years professionally varied visual designs for theatre, movies, TV and events. At the moment he is working as Stage and Costume Designer at the Lappeenranta City Theatre, Finland. He masters all the scales and the styles, indoors and outdoors. Some
examples: Set Decoration for the Turilas & Jäärä (Tootletubs & Jyro) movie and the animation series, 2001; Stage design for Shrek the Musical, Helsinki City Theatre, 2016. Halla was granted the Jussi-award (Finnish Oscar Award) for the Set design of the Pelikaanimies (Pelicanman) movie, 2004.
Important partners in work: Kari Kola, Klaus Härö, Timo Salminen, Kari Arffman, Marjo-Riikka Mäkelä. Samuli collected butterflies and insects actively back in his teen years. But nowadays he does not kill them any more!
KATJA KOUVALAINEN (b. 1974) Painter (artist). Kouvalainen has done for 9 years indoor and outdoor murals for different kind of spaces. Nature is often exposed in his artworks. He is interested in empowering art effects. KARI KOLA, has been working with light over 15 years in all fields. Over the years, he has worked both as a technical and an artistic leader in several productions including festivals, operas, musicals, multi-art performances, opening ceremonies and of course light-art. His motto is ”Nothing is impossible; it is just a matter of deciding how much you want to use your energy towards achieving it”.
