AFTERLIGHT

Afterlight is an innovative Dutch design studio specializing in creating immersive visual experiences using a technique called Projection Mapping. They create unique performances that leave a lasting impression on the audience.

Afterlight is the collaboration among Demian Albers, Frank van Mourik, Louk van Kalmthout and Michiel Ten Caten. They have an extensive background in animation direction and creation. Their love for creating art in motion brought them together and they decided to start Afterlight together in 2011.

Afterlight tries to stay away from the stereotypes in video-mapping and light design. Taking inspiration from the building and its surroundings and finding new ways to keep light and video-mapping exciting for all their viewing public. Each building and location has its own history and story. The process of uncovering that story and projecting it back on its own façade is what drives them.

Often site-specific, the best work enhances rather than effaces the architecture it's projected onto. The sheer scale can be breathtaking and the illusion of everyday and static objects around us becoming animate and playfully reworked can be incredibly exciting.

They distinguish themselves from other light artists and designers by focusing more on storytelling and on the atmosphere surrounding their artworks. The result of this is that their audience will be taken on a journey where the building is the protagonist. This creates a unique and positive feeling that keeps audiences coming back for more.

As light designers Afterlight made some impressive installations that have been displayed on international light festivals around the world. Afterlight is still creating and finding new ways to enchant people all over the world.
